Geyon Betting (Gihon) Review

Geyon betting is the spelling many players use for Gihon Betting (ግዮን in Amharic), a small Ethiopian sportsbook that presented itself as Gihon Sport Betting. Search for geyon betting and you will find almost nothing under that exact spelling – the link to Gihon is our reading of the Amharic name, not a spelling the operator itself used.

This review explains what Gihon offered, what is left of it online and why we now treat it as a historical brand rather than a bookmaker you can join.

What is Geyon (Gihon) Betting?

Gihon is a name with deep roots. In the Book of Genesis it is one of the four rivers that flow out of Eden, and Ethiopian tradition has long identified the Gihon with the Abay, the Blue Nile. A betting brand that borrowed this name was clearly aiming at a local audience, and older reviews describe a site in Amharic.

The bookmaker used the domain gihonbetting.com. The earliest reviews we found date from 2022; the company behind it, its launch year and its licence details are not documented in any source we could verify. Its official Telegram channel, Gihon Sport Betting, still exists, but it is tiny and has not posted since January 2024. At our last check on 9 October 2026, gihonbetting.com redirected to an unrelated foreign casino site.

Gihon Betting registration, login and payments

We could not open an account: there is no working Gihon site left to register on, and we found no reliable description of its sign-up steps, so we do not invent them here.

Older reviews list Visa and Mastercard cards, the EthioDash service and recharge vouchers as payment options, with card withdrawals taking up to three days. Mobile wallets such as telebirr and CBE Birr were never confirmed for this brand. All of this is historical and unverified. How local payment methods work in general is covered in our betting payments guide.

Sports betting and odds

A 2022 review counted five sports at Gihon: football, basketball, volleyball, handball and boxing, with football taking most of the space and live betting available. That is a narrow line-up compared with the larger Ethiopian bookmakers, which typically cover dozens of sports. We have no odds data from the period to compare, so we cannot judge its margins.

Games, bonuses and mobile

The most distinctive product was Lucky Balls, a lottery-style number game similar in spirit to keno; if you like this format, our guide to keno betting online in Ethiopia explains how such draws work. In 2022 the casino page of the site reportedly did not load at all, and claims of virtual sports appear only on a newer affiliate page.

Old reviews mention a welcome bonus, but we could not confirm its terms and do not repeat the figures. No official Gihon app for Android or iOS was ever verified; the brand was used through the website.

Is Gihon Betting safe?

Today the question is mostly about look-alikes. At least one affiliate site with a hyphenated version of the Gihon name copies the brand and claims a licence from the national lottery regulator; it is not the original operator, and we found no proof of that licence. Do not register or pay on a site just because it uses the Gihon or Geyon name. Betting is for adults aged 21 and over only.

Our verdict on Geyon betting

Gihon Betting was a small Amharic-language sportsbook with a short list of sports and a lottery-style game, and it has shown no sign of life since early 2024. Whether you type Geyon or Gihon, there is no site to join today. For brands we cover in more depth, see our ranking of betting sites in Ethiopia.
