Ethio Betting is an independent review site about betting in Ethiopia. We write about the bookmakers Ethiopian players search for, the ways people pay in birr and the rules that apply – in English, Amharic and Afaan Oromoo, so that every reader can use the language they are most comfortable with.
We are not a bookmaker, we do not accept bets and we are not owned by any betting company. This page explains how we rate betting sites, how we test them and who writes and edits our reviews.
How we rate betting sites
Every review carries a score out of 10. It is built from five criteria, and each of them counts for 20% of the total:
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Licence and safety | 20% | Licence history with the Ethiopian Lottery Service (formerly the National Lottery Administration) and its current status, who runs the brand, account security, age checks and responsible gambling tools |
| Payments in ETB | 20% | Accounts in birr, support for telebirr, CBE Birr, M-Pesa and bank transfers, limits, fees and payout times |
| Odds and markets | 20% | Prices on popular football matches, depth of markets on the Premier League and the Ethiopian Premier League, live betting and cash-out |
| Mobile and app | 20% | How the site works on an ordinary Android phone and a slow connection, the app and where it can be downloaded safely |
| Support | 20% | Channels, languages, response time and the quality of the answers |
A brand that is offline or whose status is unclear keeps its review for reference, but it cannot score well, and we state its status clearly in the text and in the facts table.
How we test
We start with the basics: who runs the brand, which domain is genuinely its own, which look-alike sites copy it and what the regulator has said. For brands that accept players, we then register with an Ethiopian phone number, go through the account checks, read the full terms and bonus rules, study the cashier and the payment methods it lists, compare odds on the same football matches across bookmakers, open the site on a mid-range Android phone and send real questions to support.
Since December 2025, Ethiopian banks and payment providers have been instructed to stop processing betting transactions, and we respect those rules in our own testing. Brands that are offline are documented from their own channels, press reports and our checks of the website, with unconfirmed claims marked as such. Every review shows the date of our last check.
Our principles
- We do not take money for ratings, positions or favourable wording. A bookmaker cannot buy a better score.
- Partner links are marked as advertising; how we earn money is explained in our affiliate disclosure.
- We never describe a brand as licensed when it is not, and we never recommend VPNs or other ways around blocks and banking rules.
- Our content is for adults aged 21 and over. Betting is entertainment, not a source of income – see our responsible gambling page.
- When we get something wrong, we correct it and update the date on the page.
Our team
All reviews are written by our lead betting analyst and checked by the editors of each language version.

Lead betting analyst
Dawit has followed the Ethiopian betting market since the first licensed online sportsbooks appeared. Before a review is published he checks the site himself: registration, payment options in birr, odds, the mobile version and support – and updates every review when a brand changes.

Meron Alemu
Editor, Amharic version
Meron edits our Amharic reviews and checks that every term reads naturally for bettors in Addis Ababa and beyond.

Chaltu Gemechu
Editor, Afaan Oromoo version
Chaltu edits our Afaan Oromoo pages and makes sure the reviews are clear for readers in Oromia and the diaspora.
