Afro Bet Ethiopia Review

Afro Bet is the name most Ethiopian bettors type when they look for AfroSports, a local football-first sportsbook that operated at afrobetting.net. “Afro Bet”, “Afro Betting” and “AfroSports” are not three companies. They are one brand: the official Telegram channel presents AfroSports as a betting company based in Ethiopia and links to the afrobetting.net site, and the archived site itself carries the AfroSport name. In this Afro Bet review we explain what the brand offered, how it handled payments in birr and where it stands now.

We based this review on the brand’s official Telegram channel, archived copies of its website and our own check of the domain in October 2026. Many details found online about Afro Betting come from look-alike sites rather than from the operator, and we point these out as we go.

The key fact first: at our last check in October 2026, afrobetting.net showed only a “We’ll Be Back Soon” page. The brand stopped taking bets in December 2025, so this is a review of how it worked, not a guide to signing up today.

What is Afro Bet?

AfroSports went online around 2020–2021. The domain was registered in March 2020, according to a review that cites a domain-check service, and the earliest archived copy of the site dates from April 2021. That makes it one of the established local brands of the pre-ban years. The interface came in Amharic and English, and the Telegram channel, with about 14,100 subscribers, posted mostly in Amharic and mostly about football. The channel bio promised high odds, instant payment and a simple website.

We could not identify the operating company, because AfroSports did not name one in any source we could verify. Archived front-end code shows that afrobetting.net ran on a white-label platform shared with several other Ethiopian sportsbooks, which explains why the site looked much like some of its competitors.

On 16 December 2025 the official channel announced a service interruption. A week later, on 23 December, a post in Amharic told customers that the money in their wallets was being kept in trust and was safe until the brand returned. It was a clear public statement, but we have seen no update since.

Afro Bet registration and login

Afro Bet did not publish a step-by-step sign-up guide that we could find, and registration is not possible while the site is down. On Ethiopian sportsbooks built on this kind of platform, registration typically works like this:

1. You enter an Ethiopian mobile number in the +251 format.
2. You choose a password or numeric PIN.
3. You confirm the number with a one-time SMS code.
4. You confirm that you are at least 21, the minimum betting age in Ethiopia.

Afro Betting login and existing balances

Login on sites like this typically uses the phone number and password, with a new SMS code to reset a forgotten password. If you had money in an AfroSports wallet, follow only the brand’s official channel for news about balances. Do not hand your phone number or codes to “recovery agents” who contact you privately.

Deposits and withdrawals in birr

Third-party sites list telebirr, CBE Birr, M-Pesa, SantimPay and Kacha as the brand’s payment methods. The brand did not publish a payment list that we could verify, so treat that list as indicative. The “instant payment” promise came from the brand’s own channel, but we could not test withdrawal times ourselves. We found no reliable minimum deposit or withdrawal figures.

Since 15 December 2025 Ethiopian banks and payment operators have been ordered to block betting transactions, so these channels should not be expected to work for betting at the moment. For background on each wallet, see our guide to telebirr, CBE Birr and M-Pesa betting payments.

Afro Betting: sports and odds

Football was the heart of Afro Betting, and most posts on the official channel were about football. We could not rebuild the full league list from the archive. On Ethiopian sportsbooks the core markets were typically the English Premier League, other European leagues and the Ethiopian Premier League. We could not confirm live (in-play) betting or a cash-out feature from official sources.

The brand did, however, add virtual games, which it announced on Telegram in 2022. On local platforms these usually include simulated football matches, known as e-soccer. We have no verified margin data, so we make no claim that its odds were higher than average, whatever the channel bio said.

Casino, virtual games, Aviator and keno

Apart from the virtual games mentioned above, we could not confirm any casino, slots, Aviator or keno section at AfroSports. Those products are claimed only by look-alike sites using the brand name. If keno is what you are after, our guide to keno betting online in Ethiopia covers the game in detail.

Afro Bet bonuses and promotions

Several sites that copy the Afro Bet name advertise deposit bonuses, weekly reloads and cashback. None of these offers appears in the brand’s official channel or on the archived official site. We therefore treat them as unverified and do not repeat the amounts. A bonus on a site that only imitates a brand is a common way to collect deposits that never reach the real operator.

Mobile site and app

We found no official Afro Bet app. The brand worked as a mobile-friendly website and through its Telegram channel. Do not install APK files offered under the brand name on third-party sites, because they have no connection to the operator.

Is Afro Bet safe?

No Ethiopian betting brand can be called licensed today. Some third-party sites quote an old licence number for the brand, but we could not verify it, and all sports-betting licences were revoked on 15 December 2025. Some practical points:

• The only official addresses we could confirm are afrobetting.net and the Telegram channel @afrosportsbet.
• afrobet.com is parked, while afrobetting.com and afro.bet are for sale. None of them is an operator.
• afrobetting.et is a review site, and look-alike domains with “ethiopia” in the name are not official addresses either.
• Betting is only for adults aged 21 and over. If you are worried about your betting, our responsible gambling page lists free, confidential help.

Our verdict on Afro Bet

Afro Bet, or AfroSports, was a straightforward local sportsbook: football first, virtual games on the side, local mobile money and an Amharic-speaking Telegram community. It deserves credit for publicly promising to protect customer balances when it shut down. It scores low today because the site shows only a “back soon” page, there was never an official app, and its bonuses and payment details are known mainly from copycat sites. We will review it again if it returns under a new licensing framework.
