Betka (Betika) Ethiopia Review

Many Ethiopian bettors type “betka” into a search bar when the brand they actually want is Betika, the Kenyan sportsbook that also ran an Ethiopian site at betika.et. We looked for a separate bookmaker called Betka – in search results, on Telegram and in domain records – and found nothing: betka.com is a parked domain and betka.bet does not even resolve. So this page is our Betika review, written for everyone who arrives with the Betka spelling.

The short version: Betika was one of the operators whose Ethiopian licences the Ethiopian Lottery Service (ELS) suspended at the end of 2025, and at our last check in October 2026 betika.et showed nothing but a suspension notice. Below we explain what the brand was, how accounts and payments in birr usually worked, and how to avoid copycat pages that use the Betka name.

What is Betika?

Betika is a betting company based in Nairobi, Kenya. According to its public company profile, it was founded in April 2016. The brand later expanded into Ethiopia under the betika.et domain and invested in local football: The Reporter reported a five-year sponsorship deal with Ethiopia Coffee FC, reportedly worth 6 million birr for the first season.

On 4 December 2025 ELS announced the suspension of 22 sports-betting operators, with effect from 25 November, and Betika was on that list. Eleven days later, on 15 December 2025, ELS went further and revoked the licences of every sports-betting operator in the country. When we opened betika.et on 9 October 2026, the page carried a notice in Amharic and English saying the service had been suspended for an indefinite period and would “soon be back”. No date was given.

Why the Betka spelling? The missing “i” is simply an easy slip when typing quickly on a phone. There is no evidence that a brand called Betka has ever operated in Ethiopia, and that matters: a name with no real owner is easy for clone sites and fake Telegram channels to borrow.

Betika registration and login

With betika.et suspended, there is currently no way to open a new Betika account in Ethiopia, and we did not try to create one. For reference, sign-up at Ethiopian betting sites typically follows the same pattern: you enter a mobile number in the +251 format, choose a password or PIN, and confirm the number with a one-time code sent by SMS. Under Directive 856/2014, betting is for people aged 21 and over.

Logging in to Betika and lost passwords

Login on such sites normally uses the same phone number and password, with a “forgot password” option that sends a reset code by SMS. If you had a Betika account, do not type your details into any page or Telegram bot that promises a “Betka login” – the real betika.et shows only the notice. The December 2025 order required operators to settle customer balances, so if you had money on an account, keep your records (phone number, telebirr or bank transaction IDs) and wait for official information.

Deposits and withdrawals in birr

Our facts table lists telebirr, CBE Birr and M-Pesa as the methods associated with Betika Ethiopia. We could not test the cashier ourselves, because the site was already suspended when we started this review, so treat that list as historical. Before the shutdown, Ethiopian players funded betting accounts mainly through telebirr and bank accounts; how each wallet works is explained in our guide to telebirr and CBE Birr betting.

One thing has changed for everybody: since 15 December 2025, banks, payment instrument issuers and payment system operators have been ordered to block betting transactions. A page that offers to take a deposit “for Betika” today is not the brand’s own site.

Sports betting and odds

The product list we recorded for the Ethiopian site was football-first: pre-match and live betting, plus jackpot games. In Ethiopia, football dominates betting – above all the English Premier League, the most-followed foreign competition in the country, followed by other European leagues and the domestic Ethiopian Premier League.

We cannot give you an honest odds comparison for Betika in 2026: there is no live market to check, and we do not publish margins we have not measured. If the brand returns under the new framework ELS says it is preparing, we will test its prices and update this review.

Casino, virtual games, Aviator and keno

Next to the sportsbook, the Ethiopian Betika product included virtual sports, casino games and the crash game Aviator. Crash games and keno became very popular with young Ethiopian players – in November 2025 Shega named Aviator and keno as drivers of a youth virtual-betting boom – and most local sites added them. We found no confirmation that Betika Ethiopia ran its own keno game, so we do not list one.

Betika bonuses and promotions

There are no current Betika promotions in Ethiopia, and we have no dated, verifiable record of the brand’s earlier Ethiopian offers. You will find “Betka bonus” or “Betika welcome bonus” figures on various websites; none of them come from an official source we could check, so we do not repeat them. With the official site suspended, there is nothing genuine to claim.

Mobile site and app

The Ethiopian Betika product was a simple mobile website rather than an app-heavy platform. We have no record of an official Ethiopian Betika app. Ignore APK files shared in Telegram groups under the Betika or Betka name: an app installed from an unknown source can read SMS codes and capture login details.

Is Betika safe?

As a company, Betika is an established brand with years of experience in Kenya. In Ethiopia, however, it no longer holds an active licence: it was suspended in late 2025, and all sports-betting licences were revoked on 15 December 2025. The sensible checks are the same as for any brand:

• the only Ethiopian domain the brand used is betika.et – anything spelled “betka” is not Betika;
• never share your PIN, password or SMS codes with a “support agent” on Telegram;
• betting is for adults aged 21 and over only;
• if betting stops being fun, read our page on responsible gambling in Ethiopia.

Our verdict on Betika

If you searched for betka, you were almost certainly looking for Betika – and right now there is nothing to sign up for in Ethiopia. Betika was a recognisable international name with a football-centred product and a simple mobile site, but its Ethiopian licence was suspended in December 2025 and the site has shown only a notice since. Until Betika reopens on its own domain under new ELS rules, treat every “Betka” offer you see as unofficial. Our overview of betting sites in Ethiopia shows the current status of every brand we track.
